He holds a MSc from the Agricultural University of Wageningen. He is a senior research scientist in soil chemistry and he is Programme Leader of DLO Research Programme on Model validation, Monitoring and Evaluation of the Dutch Manure Legislation. He co-ordinates, together with two other Programme Leaders, the impact of manure policies and measurements on nutrient losses to groundwater and surface waters (and to air with respect to Nitrogen). Since 1984, he has supervised and carried out alarge number of studies on phosphorus accumulation and leaching (over 40 reports and reviewed papers in (international) scientific journals and conference proceedings. He has experience on laboratory studies, field studies and modelling on local, regional and national scales. He has carried out a large number of studies on model calibration and model validation. In 1997 he became co-ordinator of one of the working groupes of Cost action 832"Quantififying the agricultural contribution of eutrophication".
