He
holds a Ph.D. in limnology from the University of
Aarhus. He is a senior scientist and Head of
Environmental Monitoring co-ordination Section at
NERI. He has considerable experience of research in
nutrient dynamics instreams, hydrology and effects
of river restoration. He has been heavily involved
in the freshwater sub-programme of the Danish
monitoring Programme on the Aquatic Environment,
including setting up monitoring programmes,
specifying methodology, data requirements and
reporting. He is in charge of
several research-projects on nutrient dynamics in
streams, and riparian areas, stream restoration,
environmental effects of fish farming etc. He is
also involved in implementing monitoring topics in
relation to the EU Water Framework Directive. He
participates at a number of OSPAR and HELCOM groups/committees.
He is in charge of co-ordinating the Danish
Environmental Aquatic Monitoring Programme and of
the coming Nature monitoring Programme, and of
Danish reporting of environmental monitoring. He
participates in international
negotiations on new monitoring obligations. He is
member of the Ministerial group on data
co-ordination, data flow and data strategy.
